Energy Matters More Than Most People Realize
I think one of the most overlooked parts of leadership is energy.
In the very real sense that people feel the emotional state of a leader long before they analyze their words. Teams notice grounded leadership and they notice steadiness, clarity, and calm presence.
They also notice when a leader feels reactive, frantic, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected.
Leadership is not about being perfect. However, people naturally look for stability in the person guiding the vision.
That is why I believe vulnerability in leadership matters so much, but so does self-awareness.
People do not need leaders who pretend to have everything together, but they do need leaders whose energy reinforces belief in the direction they are moving in and the mission. We all want a leader who can be steady under pressure, especially in difficult moments.
Strong leadership is not about suppressing emotion or avoiding hard conversations. It is about being honest while remaining grounded.
That balance changes everything. Because leadership is not only about what we say. It is also about what we transmit. So when leaders become chronically reactive, depleted, or emotionally unregulated, that energy inevitably impacts the culture around them.
I have learned that one of the most important leadership skills is emotional regulation. This is not about ignoring what is real or pretending. But developing the ability to process emotions without allowing them to drive every interaction, decision, or conversation.
The strongest leaders I know are not emotionless. They are self-aware. They know how to stay connected to themselves while still creating steadiness for the people around them.
And in today’s world, that kind of grounded leadership matters more than ever.
