In the Quiet Between What Was and What’s Next
There’s something about this week that always feels different.
The noise of the holidays has faded.
The calendar is almost full again.
And yet… there’s this quiet pause before everything begins to move forward.
I find myself here every year — looking back, looking ahead — not with a checklist, but with a pen and a lot of thoughts that don’t need to be organized just yet.
This time between years isn’t about closure for me.
It’s about honesty.
About acknowledging what this year actually held — not just the highlights, not just the hard parts, but the real moments in between.
The growth that didn’t get posted.
The lessons that came quietly.
The things I thought I wanted… and the things I realized I didn’t.
I’m thinking about what I’m ready to leave behind.
Old expectations.
Old stories.
The pressure to move faster than my life was asking me to.
And at the same time, I’m noticing what I want to carry with me —
the resilience I didn’t know I had,
the clarity that came from discomfort,
the awareness that growth isn’t always loud or obvious.
There’s a lot of talk this time of year about new beginnings.
And while I love the hope that comes with a fresh start, I don’t believe we start from zero.
We start from experience.
From everything we’ve lived, learned, and felt — whether we were ready for it or not.
As I sit with my own thoughts, I’m not trying to rewrite the past year.
I’m trying to understand it.
What it showed me.
What it asked of me.
How it shaped the person I’m stepping into next.
And maybe that’s the part I want to share with you most —
we’re all doing this together.
None of us really has it figured out.
We’re all carrying a mix of hope and hesitation into the new year.
We’re all deciding, consciously or not, what we believe is possible next.
Because what we think… what we tell ourselves… what we give our energy to — that becomes our reality.
So as this year comes to a close, my only intention is this:
to be thoughtful about what I bring forward.
Not perfection.
Not pressure.
Just awareness.
If you’re in that reflective space too — uncertain, hopeful, thoughtful, ready but not rushed — know that you’re exactly where you need to be.
Here’s to honoring what was.
Learning from it.
And stepping into what’s next with a little more clarity, a little more grace, and a lot of trust.
We’re all on the same journey — just at different points on the path.
